Ender's Game is well worth the read for science fiction lovers. The premise is perhaps not that uncommon to start: Aliens that look like giant bugs attacked Earth and we're fighting back. But rather than dealing with the initial attacks, Ender's Game deals with training young boys to lead the next attack. And they've come up with Ender, age 6 as their greatest hope. The constant interest in farting can get a little obnoxious, but we are talking about children here. As a mother, I can't disagree with the idea that even genius kids might consider bodily functions humorous. The overall story is rather dark, and Ender does accidentally kill a few people. All he really wants is to be left alone. There's a subplot, however, dealing with Ender's brother (a more vicious version of Ender) and his sister. The brother intends to rule the world and enlists his sister to help. You have to be a bit forgiving of how they use what is essentially the Internet, as the original story was written in 1977. Count me in as a fan of almost the entire series. When I review some of the later books you'll know which ones I don't like quite so well, but Ender's Game is excellent.
